3 Ways To Infuse Scent Into Your Family Memories
My niece recently told me about a childhood memory she has of the spiced apple cider I would make for holiday gatherings. She remembers walking into my home to the smell of apple cider, orange and spices bubbling on the stove, as family and friends came together for good food and time spent enjoying one another’s company. She didn’t know it then, but those family moments were infused with a unique aroma that has stayed with her for years after!
Scent is one of the best senses to engage in building memories. It is a unique way of experiencing moments and therefore, helps in recalling not only joyful experiences but strong emotions as well! With scent, can imprint your family’s traditions with a personal and homemade aroma that will bring back all of their favorite memories in the years to come.
Now there are many ways to incorporate special scents in your home – whether that is through plug-in air fragrances, sprays or candles. However, there are a lot of negative health side effects that come with using artificial fragrances. Therefore, today I’m sharing a few very natural, healthy and wonderfully scented ideas that you can easily create in your home!
- Of course, the first has to be spiced apple cider! This is a simple recipe that just requires apple cider, sliced orange with peel on, and spices. For those interested, my secret ingredient was Williams Sonoma’s ‘Mulling Spices’ blend. Just leave all ingredients lightly boiling on your stove – not only does it smell great, but it’s also a tasty drink!
- For a different scent, another option is to boil a handful of pine needles in a small pot of water. This will be sure to make the whole family feel like they’re in the middle of a Christmas tree farm! For an extra touch, add some cinnamon sticks as well.
- Lastly, for those that don’t have the time to collect and boil anything, essential oils are a great option! I would recommend oils such as ‘White Fur’ and ‘Juniper’, for that lovely holiday scent. If you’re not sure where to get them, both can be found at our clinic!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these ideas – Please share your experience if you try them out!
